Prominent
Promoting Innovation in the Inland Waterways Transport Sector
An international consortium worked on various tasks under the leadership of the Dutch Education Institute STC (Rotterdam). The work of the DST focused in particular on the topics: „Improvement of energy efficiency“ and „Development of digital and simulation-based concepts for professional training in inland navigation“
The project ‚Prominent‘ was approved as Research Innovation Action as part of Horizon 2020 with a duration of three years. The main objectives of the project were:
- Approaches to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions; implementation of pilot applications; development of approaches to evaluate the economic and environmental profile of ships or investment measures,
- Development of a certification system to monitor and evaluate the emission performance of corresponding solutions,
- Development of digital and simulation-based concepts for professional training in inland navigation. This was to take into account the specific profile of the inland navigation profession, i.e. the high degree of mobility. These educational concepts have also helped to modernize educational standards and to increase the attractiveness of the profession.
In particular, the topics: „Improving energy efficiency“ and „Developing digital and simulation-based concepts for vocational training in inland navigation“ were the focus of the DST’s work.
