On 23 May 2025 from 2 pm, the University of Duisburg-Essen, the JRF Institute DST – Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems and the JRF – Johannes Rau Research Association cordially invite you to the ceremonial christening of the new research vessel ‘NOVA’ at a ‘JRF on site’ event in the port of Duisburg.
Oliver Krischer, Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, will officially christen the battery-powered research catamaran. The ‘NOVA’ sets new standards in terms of sustainable inland navigation. Equipped with state-of-the-art sensor technology and prepared for autonomous use, the ‘NOVA’ opens up new perspectives for emission-free drives and automated navigation on inland waterways – even under challenging conditions such as extremely low water.
You can look forward to welcoming speeches from science, politics and business, the blessing followed by a ceremonial ship christening, demonstration trips on board the ‘NOVA’ for guests and networking at the reception in the beer garden.
Admission is free. Participation is only possible after prior registration.
