Kick-Off for the CoboTank Project at the DST
The Project “Development and testing of collaborative and automated robotic systems to support the loading process of tankers” started with a Kick-Off event in Duisburg.
The project addresses future-proof, automated solutions in the area of liquid cargo handling in german inland ports, an area of the inland waterway transportation which is dominated by manual, physically demanding work with prone to error. Together with the collaborative partners from Garant Mineralölhandelsgesellschaft mbH, Deymann Tankrode Logistics GmbH, Port of Hamburg Marketing e. V., Mercatronics GmbH and the Department of General Psychology: Cognition and the Chair of Mechatronics of the University of Duisburg-Essen the goal is to design a partially automated (Cobot) and a fully automated Robot. The use of a Cobot promises to increase the safety and improve ergonomic aspects, while the robot will demonstrate the possibilities of automation during handling processes. The collaborative partners are also supported by the Bundesverband der Deutschen Binnenschifffahrt e. V. (BDB) and the Unabhängiger Tanklagerverband e. V. (UTV) as associated partners.
The Cobot will be designed in a scale of 1:10 and validated in the Research Lab for Innovative Port Technologies (HaFoLa) of the DST in Duisburg before being build in a real scale at the Europäisches Sicherheitszentrum Duisburg. The project CoboTank will be the first project taking place in the Research Lab for Innovative Port Technologies.
At the kick-off event on July 4, 2022, the consortium met for the first time in the presence of representatives of the project sponsor. During the event project organization and first technical discussion were held. Another topic were reference visits to corresponding facilities. The event ended with a guided tour of the test facilities at the DST and a visit to the tank section of the Europäisches Sicherheitszentrum Duisburg e. V. at the Schiffer-Berufskolleg RHEIN.
The CoboTank project is funded by the IHATEC II programme from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.
