Facilities
At the DST two towing tanks and a manoeuvring basin are available for model tests.
The most investigations are performed in the shallow water towing tank which is equipped with a large carriage and a smaller high speed carriage. A special feature of this tank is the underwater observation tunnel. It is possible to generate a basic current in the shallow towing tank. Additionally a wave generator is installed which is able to produce arbitrary one-dimensional sea spectra.
If larger water depths are needed, a second deep water towing tank is available. This tank has a lateral underwater observation window, which extends to the ground.
The manoeuvring bassin is particularly suitable to perform turning circle manoeuvres. Due to its size it can be used for many special model tests.
