Development of a telematics-based planning tool for the intermodal transport of goods

Development of a model for the calculation of intermodal transports. Implementation of the model in a software prototype: “Planning tool for intermodal freight transport (PlainTrans)”.

The aim of the research project was to develop a telematics-based information system for intermodal transports in freight traffic and to implement it in a software prototype. A basic application with simplified structures was to be developed within the scope of this project. The project was carried out in cooperation with the partner TraffGo HT and was funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the Future Competition Ruhr Area.

The developed program is able to calculate the costs and times of a transport for different modes of transport. The current basic version is based on simplified structures e.g. in the form of standardized vehicle types, cost rates, speeds etc.. It is geographically oriented towards North Rhine-Westphalia and selected further relations.

The modular design of the program enables add-ons and modifications to be made in various respects. For example, additional vehicle types, network densifications or differentiations of cost structures can be made taking into account customer-specific requirements.
